CURRENTLY CLASSIC: My Journey in Design

Judith Ibanez

Dear Clients, Friends and Family,

I have an announcement! Today, marks the 20th anniversary of my career in design. Twenty years ago, to the day, I left corporate America, followed my heart, and with the support of my husband Stephen opened a small flower store on Sacramento Street. It was a huge gamble, but my flower shop bloomed, my business grew, and J. Rachman is now firmly established on Market Street. It’s been a thrilling journey filled with remarkable people and places.

I’m delighted to announce that I can now share this journey with you. For the past two years I have been working with Flammarion on my first Monograph, “Currently Classic”, a beautiful coffee table book documenting the people, places and homes that have made the past 20 years so incredibly special.

It’s been a long process, but with the help of many I got there. I’m indebted to my dear mentor, muse and friend Denise Hale who very generously contributed the Introduction. Claud and Hannah Cecil Gurney, thank you for your beautiful words and the shocking pink “Salon Vert” dust jacket.

Producing a book is a collaborative endeavor, it takes a village: without my loyal clients, I would not be here! Special gratitude to Mary Beth & David. Thank you, Douglas Friedman, Jose Manuel Alorda, all photographers involved, as well as Marc Antoine Coulon for your beautiful images. Thank you, Suzanne Isoré, for your editorial guidance and thank you Dean Rhys-Morgan for helping me find the words.

Judith, Jeffrey, and Monica: This book wouldn't be here without you.

Here is a little peep behind the scenes of “Currently Classic” in the making….

“Currently Classic” will be published worldwide September 13th 2022.

Love,

“Jonathan’s work has developed into an extension of his personality - it is warm, inviting, stylish, and luxurious. His rooms are filled with well thought out and original details, beautiful wallpapers, wonderful passementerie, and exquisite colour combinations. Everything is carefully considered, furniture perfectly placed and magical pieces chosen to give his rooms that dash of daring. His imagination is like no other. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.”

Denise Hale

“I’ve always loved the worldly, eclectic glamour of the interior design work of Jonathan Rachman - and now I can be inspired by his current and classic designs every time I escape with this book!”

"Like his heart, Jonathan Rachman's design talent is BIG. Jonathan's deep love of family and human connection act as the through line of his spectacular work. An unmatched expert at coupling vintage and antique pieces with contemporary finds and a master of nuanced color and perfect proportions, Jonathan creates spaces that are at once exquisitely dazzling and warmly livable. This book brings all that beauty to life along with Jonathan's signature wink and a few blown kisses. You are in for a treat!"

"Renowned for his bold, colorful designs, Jonathan’s interiors are creative, chic and sophisticated. I have admired his interiors for some time and I adore how he mixes and matches colour and plays with pattern. This elegant volume that showcases his power to conjure up an entirely new atmosphere and transform a space into an enchanting and stylish oasis is a refreshing addition to my collection of interior books."
